UAE Midday Break and Heat Stress: Planning At-Height Work in Summer
The UAE bans outdoor work in direct sun from 12:30 to 3:00pm between 15 June and 15 September. Façade programmes should plan around it rather than fight it.
The rule
Each summer the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation applies a midday break: no outdoor work under direct sun from 12:30pm to 3:00pm, from 15 June to 15 September. Check the ministry's announcement each year for the current dates.
What it means for your façade programme
- Expect shorter productive days in summer — plan more calendar days for the same scope.
- Early starts and shaded elevations first keep productivity up.
- Heat-index limits can stop work even outside the midday window.
Heat-stress controls a good contractor uses
- Shaded rest areas and cool water on the roof and at ground level
- Work-rest rotation and buddy checks
- Light, breathable PPE and electrolyte drinks
- A supervisor empowered to stop work
Plan cleaning around the seasons
Schedule the heaviest façade work for October–May and keep summer for glass maintenance cleans and urgent repairs.
